Testing Methodology

How Totmons Garden Lab structures review pages, evaluates product fit, and handles affiliate relationships in a search-first publishing model.

Totmons Garden Lab is an affiliate publisher, so the review system needs to balance two things that often get blurred together: helping readers buy the right product and building pages strong enough to rank for commercial queries.

What this methodology page is for

This page is not an attempt to oversell “lab” branding. It exists so readers and search engines can understand how the site frames evidence, buyer fit, and affiliate intent on each page.

Core review structure

Every review in the rebuild follows the same basic pattern:

  1. A short summary explaining who the product is for and what problem it solves.
  2. A specs section covering the details buyers compare most often.
  3. A concise verdict focused on fit, not hype.
  4. Pros and tradeoffs presented before the conversion block.
  5. Body copy that expands on testing notes, use cases, and bad-fit scenarios.

What “tested” means in the current rebuild

The source site contained seed review copy describing direct use, comparative observations, and product-specific takeaways. That material has been migrated into static pages and restructured so it can be expanded over time.

Where the current evidence is narrow, the pages say so. The rebuild is intentionally set up to make future review expansion easy by keeping the content in Markdown and MDX instead of a bundled React application.

Affiliate handling

Affiliate relationships are disclosed on-site and near conversion blocks. Outbound commerce links are intentionally marked as sponsored links and are kept in the content layer so they can be replaced or updated without rewriting page templates.

What this site does not do

This v1 site does not collect contact submissions, newsletter signups, or user-generated reviews. It is focused on publishable static content that search engines can crawl and readers can navigate without client-side app rendering.
